The origins of wine in Menorca go back to the arrival of the Romans, in 123 BC. Since then, there have been times of little or no production, and times of a lot of it, such as the period of British rule, in the 18th century, when the Port of Mahón was an important enclave of its navy, with its 5,000 soldiers and the many visitors and merchants attracted by this huge free port in the heart of the Western Mediterranean. Today, and for some decades now, a new wave of passion for wine of Menorca has sparked the emergence of vineyards and wineries everywhere, and on this page we present a selection of the best.
